Katie & Emily | Newborn Twins

Katie and Emily. Newborn perfection. The first newborn twins I’ve photographed! And I could have photographed them all day! They slept the whole time with hardly a peep! These are just a few of my favorites from their session. There were so many precious moments that I was able to capture!

I am always amazed by tiny new humans and I can hardly wrap my head around twins! Every. Thing. Times. Two. What an incredible blessing from God! Thank you, Amy and Dan, for your friendship and welcoming me into your beautiful home to photograph your new little family!

Strawberry Picnic First Birthday Invitations

My daughter is almost one! I sent out the invitations for her party last week!  Wait! What? How has this past year flown by so fast!?

Graphic designer mom problems…birthday invitations need to be over the top including some or all of the following: twine, washi tape, stitching, colored envelopes, envelope liner, fun inner envelope, and tags. Yes. I’m crazy, this is what I love doing though!

DIY Peplum Top Tutorial

I love going thrifting around the changing seasons to add a new piece or two to my wardrobe. I also love keeping an eye out for things that I can change into my own. I love the look of peplum shirts, lace, and crisp white. I spotted this much too large white lace top and I knew it would be a perfect top to refashion. There was a coupon mishap at the checkout and I basically got it for free! Bonus!

When looking for something to refashion like this I would suggest looking for something that is a few sizes too big. Something with some stretch, but not too much. And of course something that you love! This could also work well to make a kids top!

I used my serger for the sewing, but you could use just a straight stitch on your sewing machine, zig zag stitch, or do French seams.

First off cut the shirt! You can measure about where your natural waist is or where you want the gathered part of the shirt to sit. I cut mine about 16 inches down from the shoulders. (Cut a straighter line than I did! hahaha)

Put the bottom piece off to the side. Turn the bodice piece inside out and sew under the arms and down the sides to make it fitted. You could use another shirt that you know fits you well as a template!

Turn right side out and check how it fits you.

Next you’re going to gather the bottom piece where it will be sewn to the top piece. I usually do the largest stitch on my sewing machine and pull one the the threads to gather it. Here’s a nice little tutorial on gathering fabric if you need some more help!

Once you’ve started gathering the fabric, hold it up to the top part to see roughly how much you’ll need to gather it to match up with the top.

Once the bottom is gathered, pin it to the top bodice, right sides together. You can line up the side seams of the shirt on the top and bottom so the gathers are equally spread.

Stitch the top and bottom together!

Hooray! You have an inexpensive new much more fashionable fitting shirt!

Shanon & Drew | Winter Grant Park Maternity

I go to church with Shanon and Drew and it’s so exciting to see these two getting ready to be parents. Their little girl is already loved so much! The light was so beautiful on this winter day. Thankfully we were blessed with a warmer day to do these all outside at Grant Park in South Milwaukee! Enjoy!

Robyn & Jason | Waukesha Coffee Shop Maternity

I’m still feeling the love from this Valentine’s Day maternity session with Robyn and Jason! They are always a blast to work with and I am honored to photograph them during this special time as they are waiting to become a family of 3. Their little will be here in a matter of weeks! It was a very chilly day but we had a warm and cozy time at Mama D’s Coffee in Wales, WI.
